Napoleon Bonaparte Inkwell Collection
This is a very nice inkwell with the image of Bonaparte looking at the sunrise "Sun of Austeriz" There are laurel leaves on both sides of the inkwell. The impression of an Eagle's outstretched wings surround the top left end of this inkwell.
Napoleon Bronze Seal
or stamp for sealing wax.
This is a collection of ceramic inkwells with the Napoleon motif.
In Napoleon's will he asked that his ashes be scattered "on the banks of the Seine, among the French people I have loved so much." He was, however, buried on the island of St. Helena. I believe this inkwell is a model of the crypt he was buried in on the imprisoned island. When his body was exhumed to be brought to France, even though the Emperor had been dead for nineteen years, the remains were in a perfect state of preservation. Thus the great surprise found at the bottom of this very old inkwell. This tomb does not reflect the grandeur of his crypt now.
